 London Based designer Claire Rathjen, is quickly gaining a popular following with the Notting Hill set. Her Marie Antoinette esq. jewellery is stylishly romantic from Grecian Gold leaf earrings to exotic floral bracelets, her one off pieces are an irresistable indulgence. We catch up with the designer in her studio…

What has been your main source of inspiration for your jewellery design?

Whenever I am asked this question I always have to think about how to answer it.
A lot of my pieces are made from me seeing something, getting an idea and mixing it with other things that I picture in my head and that’s how the end product is produced.I am a big fan of colour and large statement objects that can be added to to pieces of jewellery to give them an individual feel. I have always been a big fan of Vivienne Westwood’s designs, liking her use of bold prints, colour but still keeping that elegant style. I have also always liked Chanel’s use of Pearls and Bows.Overall I think that my inspiration comes from personal preferences, past experiences and always having an eye out for new ideas.
What accessories and jewellery will you be choosing to wear this season?

As we approach the autumn winter season it will give me the opportunity to be able to introduce my new ideas and designs.
I love scarf’s so I will definitely be on the look out for my yearly investment of these. To go along with these I am looking to make some new brooch designs that can be worn with scarf’s.
My jewellery will be taking a new look, the use of rich colours like sapphire and berry shades, with bows made of tweed and velvet.
 
What is you favourite piece from your collection?
It is hard for me to pick out one piece of jewellery from my collection as my favourite but I am very proud of the Gold Necklace on Flash Trash with the Heart Locket and Rose (featured below £17.00) and there are also a few Naval pieces that I have been wear a lot lately.
